The Program's Mission

In India, a critical 17% average dropout rate at the secondary-higher secondary juncture represents a vast pool of untapped potential, often halted by financial need, domestic responsibilities, or a lack of clear pathways. Launched in September 2022, the Certificate Program in Information Technology (CPIT) directly addresses this gap. This joint initiative by the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Dharwad, Mindtree Foundation, and Edunet Foundation is designed with a singular, outcome-driven mission: to reclaim this talent. By focusing on youth who have left formal education after Class X, the program creates a vital alternative route, transforming a point of exit into a point of entry for a technology career.

Our Holistic Approach

The CPIT program delivers empowerment through a structured, 18-month journey in basic Information Technology skills. The core outcome is to enable, empower, and accelerate participants by providing more than just technical knowledge; it offers a holistic foundation for professional life. For a young individual compelled to leave school, the program replaces uncertainty with a clear, skills-based trajectory. It shifts their role from being a financial burden or an early entrant into unstable work, to becoming a skilled candidate actively curating a sustainable career, thereby breaking the cycle that led to their initial dropout.

  • An Opportunity to re-enter the formal education
  • Financial aid to support participants
  • Collaborative ecosystem
  • Experiential Learning

Transforming Individuals and Communities

The ultimate success of CPIT is measured in transformed lives and strengthened communities. Each graduate represents a direct reversal of the dropout statistic—a person now equipped with certified IT skills, heightened employability, and the confidence to be a provider. The program’s outcome is not merely a certificate, but the creation of a new demographic: technology-enabled professionals who emerged from outside the traditional educational pipeline. This fosters a powerful ripple effect, inspiring peers and proving that a missed conventional milestone does not define one’s future, thereby contributing to a more inclusive and skilled national workforce.
